Parent involvement shows improvement in student achievement, reduces absenteeism, improves behavior and parents become confident about their child's schooling. Ways to be involved: Homework/schoolwork a priority over television and video games A set amount of time to accomplish homework Assist with homework, make sure it gets done by checking the homework Practice the R's, - Responsibility, Respect Find out about school happenings: upcoming tests, projects due dates, extra curricular activities Set goals - high but attainable both academic and extra curricular Visit school - learn to know the teacher(s), open house, parent-teacher conferences, attend functions, web page, read school newsletters Volunteer - classroom, field days, special events, etc. Participate- Parent Teacher Association, school board meetings, voice your ideas for school improvement
