Theater Arts and UIL One Act Play
The HHS Theater Department is building a tradition of excellence. The students of our award-winning department have received more than 500 UIL One Act Play medals and earned over $276,000 in college scholarships since 2005.
Any student enrolled at HHS and passing their classes with a 75 or better is eligible to try out for roles in performances. Students must attend auditions being prepared for an interview, cold reading, movement, improvisation, and singing. Technical students may show a portfolio of work and go through an interview process. Auditions are publicized on our Web site, through the newspaper and local radio, school announcements, and posters.
When auditions are held for productions which require younger students, those students must be enrolled in an HISD school. Participation in the UIL One-Act Play is by invitation only to HHS students.
We present three major productions each year: the Fall Dinner Theatre, December Musical, and UIL One-Act Play. Theater students also compete in prose and poetry competitions, write and direct the Red Ribbon Week production, produce a Halloween show in conjunction with the Hill County Food Drive, and participate in the Hill County Creative Arts and Education Fair.
