Executive Director of Literacy
Sheila Bowman has served as a successful educator for over twenty years, teaching English Language Arts and providing Literacy and RTI Support Services at the elementary and secondary levels. She has served as Executive Director of Curriculum Services in HISD prior to moving into her role as Executive Director of Innovative Learning with a focus on 21st-century learning and student engagement. Her current title is Executive Director of Literacy.
Bowman attended Tarleton State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Bowman holds Texas educator certificates in Elementary English Grades 1-8, Elementary Self-Contained Grades 1-8, Elementary Reading Grades 1-8, English as a Second Language, and Principal.
She believes students need opportunities to be creative problem-solvers and innovators. They also need to be able to communicate their ideas as well as access and analyze information. She works to support the district in creating opportunities for all students to successfully acquire these vital 21st-century skills.
