Mrs. Kathy Groppel
Kathy Groppel has been an educator for nearly 37 years. She came to HISD in 1998 as a special education teacher. She became the Director of Special Education in 2004 and continues to serve in that position. In addition to serving as special education director, she also serves as 504 coordinator and coordinates all federal programs.
Groppel received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and a Master’s degree in special education from East Texas State University (now known as Texas A & M Commerce). She went on to obtain her diagnostician certification through a program at Region 10 Education Service center. Mrs. Groppel holds a Texas Educator certificate in all-level Health & Physical education, Elementary self-contained grades 1-8, Elementary and Secondary Music grades 1-12, Mentally Retarded grades PK-12, and diagnostician.
Mrs. Groppel strives to ensure that all students get the services they need in order to be successful in all their educational endeavors. She works with administrators, teachers, and students to provide them with the best possible education experience in HISD.
