• The State of Texas requires that all undergraduate students entering public colleges and universities in Texas have the skills necessary to perform effectively in college-level coursework. The Texas State Initiative (TSI) is a placement test that determines if a student is ready for college-level work in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.
All students enrolling in undergraduate studies or dual-credit courses, unless exempt, must take the TSI prior to registering for classes.
Hillsboro High School offers TSI testing for HISD students.  The cost for the test is $5 per section.  Students are encouraged to prepare for the TSI prior to examination.  The CollegeBoard offers a study app for the TSI at https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/prepare-for-accuplacer.  Passing scores for the TSI  can be found on college and university websites.  For dual-credit courses taken at Hillsboro ISD, please review Hill College's TSI Assessment page.
