Child Find

Every Child Deserves a Chance

Children with learning disabilities need special help in school. But not all disabilities that interfere with learning are easily recognized. Symptoms of children with disabilities include awkwardness, clumsiness, confusion, forgetfulness, frustration, shyness, aggressiveness, or the inability to concentrate.

Child Find is a process mandated by the Individual with Disabilities Act (IDEA). Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness activities, screening and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and refer school age and younger children who may benefit from early intervention or education services.

ESC Region 12 and local independent school districts offer information, referral services, and public awareness to parents and community members at no cost.

For information on free services for children birth through 21 years old with disabilities, call Kathy Groppel, HISD Director of Special Education, at (254) 582-8585.
