Intermediate Insight Week of 2/8

  • This week of school at H.I.S. has been amazing! It was so good to see all of our students smiling faces!  Our teachers and students have been busy working hard every day at H.I.S.!  High expectations have been communicated and are still being set for our students to strive for excellence daily.  Our students are already exceeding those expectations every day! H.I.S. chooses LOVE!
  • In 4th grade this week, students worked hard on benchmarks, performed math operations, and learned some new skills and practiced old skills. In ELAR, students practiced making connections between paired texts. Students reviewed previous genres through stations and journaled their reading responses. In Math, students practiced for the math benchmark next week. They also worked on the first transformation of the year, where they were able to “operate” in a hospital to solve problems that included all operations. Science had students analyzing weather, learning the different elements of weather, and figuring out how the water cycle regenerates through weather. Students also took their Science Benchmark. In Social Studies, students took another benchmark and began learning about why Texas was annexed to the United States.
  • This school year is flying by, 100 days are gone. I can’t believe it! The students are giving it 100% percent in the classrooms too! The weekly insight this week is: 3rd graders will be reviewing place value, comparing, and expanded notation, 4th graders will be solving fluency one and two-step problems that will involve multiplication and division, they will also be taking their Science and Social Studies benchmark, and 5th graders will be doing a section review on area, perimeter, volume, and taking their Math and Reading benchmarks.
  • 3rd grade math is working hard on reviewing before our benchmarks next week. We have reviewed all of our readiness standards in the past 4 weeks. We are super excited to see how great they do on Monday!
  • From the Library📚
    • HIS Spring Book Fair February 4th through 15th!

  • Art Weekly - 3rd grade and 5th grade learned how to mix primary colors to make secondary and tertiary colors. 4th grade drew a ship on a bottle on plastic to make it look like a bottle.
  • LEx LAB students began a project in Scratch which will result in a Valentine themed video game. They are learning to code using X and Y axis, how to create a scrolling effect, cloning, as well as building on skills they already have.
  • This week in 5th grade ELAR, We are reading Something Upstairs by Avi. The students reviewed for their reading benchmark by playing Kahoots and worked on their Text Structure Magazine projects, which are coming out amazing. The students have worked hard on the benchmarks and took their time and used their strategies they learned. We are so proud of them for all their hard work and dedication.
