Intermediate Insight Week of 3/29

  • This week of school at H.I.S. has been amazing! It was so good to see all of our students smiling faces!  Our teachers and students have been busy working hard every day at H.I.S.!  High expectations have been communicated and are still being set for our students to strive for excellence daily.  Our students are already exceeding those expectations every day! H.I.S. chooses LOVE!
  • Positive passengers are on the road to sharing their thoughts in more descriptive ways by creating and expanding simple sentences to compound sentences, with correct conventional punctuation of course. Their subjects and verbs must agree as they continue to convey their ideas on this endless journey of reading and writing. Passengers will need a little fuel to reach their destination which requires understanding of currency & taxes with efficient application of each objective.
  • In 4th English Language Arts/Reading students practiced revising and editing passages. They also practiced the writing process by responding to expository prompts, in preparation for the STAAR Writing test.  Students practiced for STAAR Reading by using their great reading and comprehension strategies to exhibit understanding and inferencing skills in STAAR passages. In 4th Math, students solved with fluency one- and two- step problems. In 4th Science, students learned about organisms and their habitats. In 4th Social Studies, students learned how the growing oil and gas industries provide economic opportunities for Texas.
  • This week in Third Grade Social Studies, we began the journey into Economics, from learning basic principles of earning and spending to the workings of a simple business. They earned a “paycheck” for their work in stations and then made a simple budget with their earnings. We look forward to guiding them next week as they make a business plan, create a product, and then sell their product on Market Day to their peers to better understand the ideas of loans, revenue, and profit.
  • 5th Graders have been hard at work this week in their classes. They have been participating in a March Madness Mathketball Competition. Students have been taking a 7-8 question STAAR rigor spiraled test every day with their testing partner. Based on their scores, they earn basketball shots in the trashcan to earn points. The winning teams will sit at a designated table and get pizza for lunch on Friday. We have never seen these students work harder! Math this week has been filled with team work, analyzing questions, double checking, intense math conversations and some risky shots! We are very proud of what we have witnessed as teachers this week!
