Intermediate Insight Week of 4-5

  • This week of school at H.I.S. has been amazing! It was so good to see all of our students smiling faces!  Our teachers and students have been busy working hard every day at H.I.S.!  High expectations have been communicated and are still being set for our students to strive for excellence daily.  Our students are already exceeding those expectations every day! H.I.S. will GROW!
  • Our fabulous fourth graders practiced revise and edit skills in passages. They also practiced the writing process with a prompt. Our master mathematicians solved with fluency one- and two- step problems involving addition and subtraction of decimals. Our Scientists studied organisms and their environments. The student knows and understands that living organisms within an ecosystem interact with one another and with their environment. The students investigated and found that most producers need sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make their own food, while consumers are dependent on other organisms for food. Our Historians were learning how inventions and the growth of industries provided economic opportunities to Texas in the early 1900s.
  • In the Math co–teach classrooms, students are happy to be back and ready to learn! While learning new concepts, we are constantly spiraling in material that the students learned from earlier in the year to help prepare them for the upcoming STAAR Test.  The 5th-grade classes will be reviewing geometry, decimal place value, and basic operations with fractions.  The 4th-grade classes will be solving problems with fractions, area, and perimeter.
  • This week in 5th grade Social Studies, we wrapped up our World War II unit by discussing America's role in the war effort. We analyzed propaganda posters that were put out by the government during that time such as Rosie the Riveter and War Bond posters. We also discussed the major battles of the war and were able to watch some clips that were real footage of some of those events. On Thursday we did a Kahoot review over both World Wars, The Roaring Twenties, and the Great Depression, and on Friday we will be testing over that content.
  • This week in third grade our kiddos having been working hard on their free enterprise system. The students have been "buying" materials that they need from the teacher store to build an awesome product. We love seeing what their creative minds have come up with! On Friday we will be giving the students a "paycheck" and will then let them purchase these products from other students. At the end of this project the students will be able to create a budget and see how much profit each business has earned!
