Intermediate Insight Week of 4/12

  • This week of school at H.I.S. has been amazing! It was so good to see all of our students smiling faces!  Our teachers and students have been busy working hard every day at H.I.S.!  High expectations have been communicated and are still being set for our students to strive for excellence daily.  Our students are already exceeding those expectations every day! H.I.S. will GROW!
  • ELAR co-teach classrooms have been hitting the test prep so hard! We’ve also been working on growing a love of reading by connecting to every text we come across. We want to build up that background knowledge! 5th grade dominated the 2019 STAAR and I’m so proud and impressed with their endurance and hard work! HIS ROCKS! Go EAGLES!
  • This week in 5th grade, we will start our last and final novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. The students are excited and can’t wait. We also took the math and reading STAAR test this week, and we are so proud of our students for the hard work and dedication that they showed on both days.
  • Our 3rd graders have had an interesting week! In math, students are tirelessly working on mastering area and perimeter. Students demonstrated their growth and knowledge on their Math CBA on Tuesday. Teachers are using that data to spiral skills into class to review for STAAR. In Reading, 3rd grade took a Reading CBA on Wednesday. Students are continuously working on reviewing and mastering skills for STAAR in their reading stations. In Science, students are learning about animal adaptations that help them survive in the wild. Students have learned about structural, behavioral, and defense adaptations as well as inherited traits.
  • In Music, we have already taken a trip to Russia and learned a dance, and now, we are studying a song from Guinea. We will play African drums and rhythms with this song. We are continuing to make progress on our recorders, and will be studying American music soon.
  • GATE students stepped back in time to 11th century Spain with a field trip to Medieval Times in Dallas. It was a great experience to wrap up our study of Medieval Times.
  • Art Weekly - 3rd grade learned about landscapes and castles. They painted with watercolor and collaged a foil castle onto their landscape. 4th grade learned about composition and drew beautiful flowers with oil pastels. 5th grade continued weaving pouches. --
  • Back on track for All Things Google. 5th still working on Basic Google Skills and Keyboarding Skills. 4th Grade conquered Google Docs and will now be exploring what they can do with Google Draw. 3rd grade will be using explore in Google Docs to insert images.
  • Fourth grade rocked their Writing STAAR test this week. In ELAR they are continuing to work on animal research projects to display on informational posters. In Math, students are working on their fluency when solving one- and two-step problems using different operations.
